Calvin Knight, County Extension
Agent Agriculture in Jefferson
County for the past 6 years,
will leave Jefferson County on
March 1 for a new assignment.
He has been appointed County
Extension Agent Agriculture in
Ashland County, Ashland, Ohio.
Mr. Knight is the holder of a
Bachelor of -Science Degree in
Agriculture from Ohio State Uni-
versity where he graduated in
1949. He later studied at Michi-
gan State University. .Prior to
coming to Jefferson County, Mr.
Knight taught Vocational Agri-
culture for 10 years at Arcadia,
Ohio and Paulding, Ohio. During
this time he trained 14 state
farmers, 2 American farmers,
8 gold medal parliamentary pro-
cedure teams, county winning
dairy, sheep judging, and land
judging teams and was a teacher
trainer.
As County Extension Agent in
Jefferson County, he has helped
to establish the County Beef Com-
mission and the tri county graded
Feeder Calf Association. He has
taken an active part in the re-
location of the Jefferson County
Fairgrounds, the Beekeepers As-
sociation and the Agronomy Com-
ission, He has been instru-
mental inestablising and work-
ingwith committees on mini-

ative partiipation, the Jeffer-
ison County: Dairy Association
has improved the Dairy Industry

a milk testing supervisor.
Mr. Knight has taken an active
part in civic enterprises, his
church, and the educational and
resource development of Jeffer-
son County.
He is a member of the Region
Planning Commission, the Child
Welfare Study Committee, Wayne
Ruritan Club, Tri-State Broad-
asters , Upper Ohio Valley Hor-
ticultural Society, Grange, Farm
Bureau Federation and the YM-

County Chairman for Jefferson
County, is on the planning com-
mittee of The 1965 Mid America
Hardware Show being held in
Columbus, February 21, 22, 23.
Mr. John BoConklin, Secretary-
Treasurer of the Ohio Hardware
Association which sponsors the
annual Show, disclosed that ex-
hibit space at Veterans Memorial
where over 225 leading U. S.
manufacturers will be exhibiting
their product lines has been com-
pletely sold out for months-
the earliest in the show's 72-
year history.
The Mid America Show Con-
vention Sessions, which will be
held at The Columbus Plaza (Mid
America Show headquarters),
this year will feature outstanding
business authorities and leading
retail hardware merchants from
Ohio.
Scheduled to address the Con-
vention Sessions are such out-
standing speakers as Arthur Ro-
senbaum, Assistant Vice Presi-
dent and Director of Business
Research of Sears, Roebuck &
Co.; James H. Bierer, General
Manager of the Consumer Pro-
ducts Division of The Corning
Glass Works; Dr. Carl C. Byers
of the General Motors Corpor-
ation, and H. L. Thompson, Jr.,
President of The National Whole-
sale Hardware Association.
An additional feature of the Con-
vention Sessions will be the
"Round Table For Profits" panel
discussion where eight of Ohio's
most successful retail hardware
merchants will discuss the meth-
ods and factors that have led to
their retailing success.
Red Cross
Sets Date For
Fund Drive
The Reverend Mr. Samuel Pol-
lock, Chairman of the 1965 Jef-
ferson -County hdd Cross Fund
Drive has announced the--drive
will be conducted March 1st
through March 15th, with head-
quarters in theRed Cross chapter
house.
There will be no kick-off dinner
this year. Plans are being com-
pleted by Red Cross officials and
Campaign Leaders for individual
meetings with teams the first to
be held on Tuesday, February 8th
at 12 noon in the Chapter house
of all COUNTY LEADERS. Ad-
vanced gifts division, George J.
Barthold, chairman, meets on
Thursday, February 11th; In-
dustrial - William S, Cusick,
Chairman-February 25th. Na-
tional Corporations is headed by
Robert E. Aldrich. Establish-
ments-Bruce Cox; Clubs-JohnE.
Criss, Jr.; Clubs and Organi-
zations City Teams-James Bran-
agan; Women's Residential-Mrs.
Clyde Reynolds, Chairman, will
meet Friday, February 26th.
Atty. N. Hart Cohen, Chapter
Chairman, states "March is Red
Cross Month throughout the Uni-
ted States. Your local Jefferson
County chapter is soliciting your
help in order to render the many
services provided throughout the
County this past forty-eight
years." The goal is $46,000.

Survey Teams Canvass
Area N For Sewage
System Information
Survey teams will move into
the area immediately west of
Wintersville this week to chart
field information on a proposed
sewer system for the territory
designated as Area "M."
Richard Dougherty of Rackoff
& Associates, consulting engi-
neers on the sewer project, told
the Jefferson County Commis-
sioners that teams started
Tuesday or Wednesday knocking
on doors to collect field infor-
mation on the location of house
sewers, basement elevations,
locations of existing septic tanks
and other information needed for
detailed plans for the sewage
collection and disposal sistem.
He said the Rackoff employes
will carry identification, and
urged residents of the area to
cooperate with them.

Agricultural
Experiments Schedule
The Ohio Agricultural Experi-
ment Station has released a tenta-
tive schedule of educational ac-
tivity for 1965. The list includes
a total of fourteen field days
and special events.
Greenhouse Vegetable Day,
April 29, at Wooster is the first
of the regularly scheded days.
May is the ornly month in the
period from April through
October in which a field day or
special event is not scheduled.
Following is a list of the special
days and their location: FIELD
DAYS: Greenhouse - vegetable,
Wooster, April 29; Small fruits,
Wooster, June 10; Turkey;
Wooster, June 23; Sheep, Woos-
ter, July 30; Orchard, Wooster,
August 5; dairy, Wooster, August
13; Ohio Pesticide Institute,
Wooster, August 18; lawn and
ornamentals, Wooster, Septem-
ber 21 and 22; Farm Science
Review, Columbus, September
29, September-30 and October 1.
SPECIAL DAYS: Beef, Hoytville,
June 3, 4-H Career, Wooster,
June 25.
Three other special days are
being planned, but as yet no
definite dates have been set.
These include an agronomy and
beef day at Carpenter, Ohio,
during the week of June 21; a
grape and horticulture day at
Ripley during August; and the
annual tomato day at Hoytville
in September.
should be completed within 60 to
90 days with the weather per-
mitting. The next step will be the
pouring of concrete walls to form
the tank.
Mr. Hendricks reported that the
next Plant to be constructed will
be in Site B. This site is located
at the end of Crawford Avenue.

Wintersville C ot -C T Hold 10th Annual Dinner
The Wintersville Chamber of
Commerce will hold its tenth
annual Dinner on the 17th of
February at 6:30 pm in the high
school cafeteria. Dinner will be
served by the Wintersville Band
Parents.
A very delicious turkey dinner
is the menu with door prizes
and good entertainment to be en-
joyed by all. Reservations are to
be in by the 13th of February.
This year's theme is "Enjoy
Progress In 65."

Sportsmen To Hold
"Fish Fry"
The Jefferson Counrty Sports-
men Association will hold their
Annual Fish Fry Saturday, Feb-
ruary 13, 1965 from 7 till ? at
the V.F.W. Hall in Weirton.
Tickets can be purchased at the
door or from any member. There
will be movies, entertainment and
beverages.
Proceeds from the fish fry will
go toward the stocking of the
lakes at the Park.

The base for Plant Site E, lo-
cated in Moon Valley, was poured
Tuesday morning. In spite of the
rain and mud, 72 yards of con-
crete was poured and crew men
from the sub-contractor Robert
Gribben Constructiop Company
finished and covered the base with
plastic to protect it from the
weather.
Harry Hendricks, Superintend-
ent of Public Utilities, stated that
the 40,000 gallon tank at Plant
Site E, being btui by' the J.R.
Savage Construction Company,
