Defeat The
Crusaders 58-55
The Goldenfi Warriors withstood
the onslaught of the Central Cru-
saders for 35 minutes of basket-
ball playing to win their opening
game of the "AA" Sectional
58-59.
The crowd, estimated upward of
2500, watched a slow starting
Warrior Five bring them to
"Fever Pitch" in a see-saw
second half that needed a three
minute over-time to decide the
game winner.
Coach Lee Patrone's warriors,
playing their first game of the
season on the large Arena floor,
against the home-court Central
Crusaders, trailed 10-1 after 3
minutes of play. Tom Ricci
started the scoring for Central
and kept his team in the game
by scoring 15 points. Rich Hast-
well, Russ Dixon, and Dennis
Peterson brought the Warriors
to a lead of five points at the
end of the first quarter. The
Warriors with Fred Hastwell
grabbing the rebounds led at
half-time 27-21.
The Warriors with the youngest
team in the tournament, Fred
Hastwell, Senior, Russ Dixon,
Dennis Peterson, Junior's, Rich
Hastwell, Connie Porreca,
Sophomore's, was oitscored and
outplayed the second half by
Frank Mieczkowski, Jack Sun-
seri, and the Central team 32-26
forcing the game into a three
minute overtime.
The fourth quarter started with
the Warriors leading 43-40 and
both teams took turns scoring,
Porreca scored two foul shots,
Magary scored on a foul, Tom
and Frank Mieczkowski With
goals tied the score 45-45.
Dixon scored two and Rich Hast-
well made a four point margin,
short lived, as Cavanaugh and
Ricci put Central ahead 51-49.

to play. Central and Winters-
ville both had the ball on two

The Warriors tightened their
defense in the over-time period
and Central handled the ball for
five field goal attempts scoring
once for 55 points. The War-
riors had Peterson miss two
foul shots in the first minute
while Russ Dixon tied the score.

Bantam Ridge Pre-School
Clinic Dates Set
A Pre-School Clinic will be held
on March 8, 1965 at Bantam
Ridge School from 9:15 to 11:00.
All pre-school children who will
be six on or before October 1,
1965 and who will be starting
to first grade in September, are
asked to attend the clinic for
shots, physical examinations and
pre-registration.
The Jefferson County Board of
Health Department will be in
charge of the clinic.

The Wayne Band Parents held
their monthly meeting with Mrs.
Eunice Poe, president, presiding
over the meeting. She appointed
a committee of 'Mrs. Martha
Barker, chairman, Mrs. Leona
Giffin, Mrs. Betty Shambaugh
and Mrs. Doris Plotts to have
charge of refreshments following
Spring Concert.
The Wayne Band will hold tag
day in Steubenville on March 6.
Plans are being completed for
the Band to go to Band Camp
for one week in August.
The Band Director, Mr. George
Bonamase, wished to publicly
thank the Board of Education and
the people of the Bloomingdale
Community who made it possible
to get new band instruments.
Anne Meloy of Brilliant had
charge of a Stanley Party at the
meeting. Mrs. Helen Lewis, Mrs.
Betty Shambaugh were the host-
esses.
The band director is starting a
Jr. High band and had Gerrero
Music show the different instru-
ments and what instruments your
child can play. The interest
among the children and parents
was displayed at the meeting.
