Lynne Hunt Receives Membership Hosrs
By PATRICK O'HARA
The history and tradition that
behoves the American People,
in summarizing nearly 189 years,
will be solemnized throughout the
world May 30, 1965.
Americans of every age will re-
dedicate their heritage that be-
holds all men to be "free and
equal" in a world of absolutism.
Memorial Day 1965, spanning 100
years since the end of the "Civil
War", has grown to world pro-
portion with the burial of Ameri-
can soldiers the world over, The
graves of Civil War Heroes is
overshadowed by the American
cemeteries established on for-
eign soils the past 25 years.
The credenda of those departed
clamor for an ever stronger need
of patriotism throughout the land
of a country that no longer bor-
ders on the Atlantic or Pacific
ocean. Memorial Day Rites that
first honored the dead oftheCiv-
il War, in uniting a country of
Free Men, must now honor the
dead of all wars in uniting a free
world with a new crednda, "The
future belongs to the advancement
of humanity."
Memorial Day 1965 has more
meaning thn paying a just hom-
age to our war dead, it brings
prayers for all of our loved ones
in all the cemeteries, churches,
and wherever reverent respect is
paid to a friend or loved one. The
ever burning torch oflife handed
from generation to generation is
burning more brightly than ever
before with the echo of our fore-
fathers: "Don't tarnish Liberty."
A poet once wrote:
The muffled drum's sad roll
has beat
The soldier's last tatoo;
No more on life's parade shall
meet
That brave and fallen few.
On Fame's eternal camping
ground
Their silent tents are spread,
And glory guards, with solemn
round,
The bivouac of the dead.
