The Livestock Sale was held August 19th at the Jefferson County Fair. This was one of the
34 sold by boys and girls and was raised by Donald Sanders of Powells Lane, Wintersville.

Governor James A. Rhodes, foll-
owing nation-wide observance of
Labor Day and its particular
signifcance to productivity and
on-the-job and off-the-job safety,
has declared the period of August
29 to September 6 as "Labor/
Industry Safety Week".
In accordance with the ex-
pressed wishes of the Governor,
the Ohio AFL-CIO, the Ohio Man-
ufacturers Association, along
with the State Industrial Comm-
ission Division of Safety and Hy-
giene and the Ohio Departments
of Agriculture and Highway Safety
have combined forces to promote
the full significance of the holi-
day.
"The strength of our American
economy is those men and wo-
men, whose labors result in the
products of agriculture, business
and industry," said Ohio's Chief
Executive. "We, therefore, sa-
lute these important segments of
society."
Furthermore, he pointed out that
"the preservation of the health,
safety and well being of those
composing the labor force is nec-
essary to the continued growth,
prosperity and productivity of
these United States." "I urge
Ohio's citizens to recognize and
practice good safety in all of
their endeavors," he concluded.
Wintersville Citizen
Sports Writer Injured
Bill Milewsky, sports writer
for the Wintersville Citizen, ac-
clently shot himself in the foot
last Friday. He is reported in
good condition.
Bill is at St. John Hospital,
Room 420.
The accident occurred while
Bill was shooting rats in a vacant
lot next to his home.
On behalf of the Wintersville
Citizen and its readers, we wish
Bill a speedy recovery.
Wayne Band To Hold
Preview Concert
Wayne High School Band will
hold a preview concert on the
front lawn of the school Tues-
day evening, September 7 at 7:00
p.m.
FREE to the public.
Coffee, pop and potato chips
will be sold by the Band Mothers.
Futuras To Be Featured
At Unionport Dance
The "Futuras" will be featured
at a youth dance at the Union-
port Grade School Auditorium
from 8 to 11 p.m., Friday even-
ing, September 3. Admission-501.
The dance will be sponsored
by the Unionport Volunteer Fire
Department.
Buchanan and Memorial
PTA To Meet
The first meeting of the
Buchanan Junior High School and
the Wintersville Memorial High
School P.T.A. will be held on
September 8th at 8:00 p.m. in
Buchanan Junior High School.
Junior Women To
Hold Rummage Sale
The Junior Women's Society of
Wintersville will hold a Rum-
mage Sale on September 10th at
Schwaben Hall, North 6th Street,
Steubenville.
The Woodvue Recreation
Park will be open to the
public this weekend.
Roger Pyles
COLUMBUS, O.-Roger G. Pyles
of 109 Beverly Lane, Winters-
ville, Ohio. has been invited to
sing with the Ohio Youth Choir
at the 112th Ohio State Fair.
The announcement was made to-
day by Glenville D. Thomas,
Concert Director.
The choir will consist of 300
youths who have exhibited ex-
ceptional vocal ability and will
draw its members from every
county throughout the state. This
group constitutes the world's lar-
gest all-youth, four-part choir.
Mr, Thomas, who is also Director
of Music of Zanesville High
School, has announped that the
choir was convened for rehear-
sals on August 31st with con-
certs presented over the long
Labor Day weekend.
"We are delighted tohave Roger
join our Ohio Youth Choir as a
representative of Jefferson Coun-
ty's vocal culture and training,"
said Thomas in making the an-
nouncement. "We are certain
his contribution to the tenor sec-
tion of this large vocal group
will be a factor in the success
of our series of concerts before
1965 State Fair audiences."
Roger will be housed, while at
the Fair, at the Youth Center and
will return home after the final
concert on Labor Day, September
6th. He is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert G. Pyles of Winters-
ville, Ohio.
Ellen Hemschrodt
Graduates With Honors
Mrs. Ellen Hemscnrodt ofSteu-
benville, Ohio, an evening student
of Geneva College, was graduated
magna cum laude and received
her bachelor of Science degree
in Education. Mr. ElbertE. Whit-
latch, Jr. of Pittsburgh received
his bachelor of Science degree
in engineering and was also grad-
uated magna cum laude.
Of the 60 students who com-
pleted requirements for their
degrees for the summer session,
only Mrs. Hemschrodt and Mr.
Whitlatch received the magna
cum laude honors.
Dr. William H. Russell, dean of
the college, announced the honors
and conferred the degrees upon
the 60 students.
Mrs. Hemschrodt is a teacher
at the Wintersville Elementary
School.
