"The Goblins Will Get You If You Don't Watch Oi
By EVE SEITER
Before this paper goes to
the press, goblins will be
abroad, some of them seeking
treats under threat of tricks!
Watch for them as they scurry
forth from the shadows. Keep
an eye out for them as they
cross our streets. The inno-
cent fun of soookin friends
and neighbors can be shat-
tered by an accident.
Vandalism is not "fun" nor
is it a "trick.:" It is a crime,
certain to involve young people
and their parents in trouble
and grief. The older, young
people in our Area are wisely
setting a pace that will make
Halloween a time. of fun in-
stead of folly. Adults are
assisting them.
WARA will help by sponsor-
ing a Community Parade and
party for children and ol-
der young people. The parade
October 31, will form at Lee's
Garage on Leonard Avenue
and Main Street at 6:45 P. M.
The Wintersville High School
Band will lead the parade
with our Village Police and
Volunteer Firemen assisting
in the formation.
Costumes will be judged
immediately following the
parade in the Wintersville El-
ementary School. Prizes will
be awarded according to age
groups: 1-6 years, 6-9 years,
9-12 years, 12-16 years and
16 and older. Prizes for the
most original and the funniest
costume in older age group
will be awarded. So here is a
chance to have some fun, for
everyone loves a masquarade.
This writer recalls two cleVer
traffic lights who stopped
traffic at her door on Hal-
loween night. An ingenious
mother had converted two
corrugated boxes into full
fledged traffic signals which
properly glowed red, yellow
and green. The child witmnin,
equipped with flashlight, has
had a merry old time,
What's a party without
tood? Refreshments will be
served. Cider and donuts
passed around there by the
Junior Federated Club Women
of Wintersville.
From 6-9 o'clock Halloween
night another group of young
people representing Youth
Groups of various Area
Churches will make a UNICEF
Drive. These young people
will be of Junior and High
School age and will s6licit
door to door contributions.
Remember, now, they can be
identified': :by their official
carton. ._. a half pint paper
container .-with an orange and
black. Isicker bearing the
UNICEF symbol of mother
and child. Their aim is to
treat the World's children.
the money you give buys
milk and vitamins for sick and
needy children throughout
the world. Our own, young
people entreat you for them.
There may be a few poli-
tical eoblins about in the next
week. Watch out for them,
too. Learn to know them. You
still have time. A Chicago
election poster reads, "Bad
officials are elected by good
people who do not vote."
We might add to that, "or
vote without knowledge."
Knowing a candidate's ad-
dress, sex, race, the size
of his family and his place of
employment is not enough.
All this gives a mental pic-
ture of the type of candidate
but gives little indication of
his qualification for office.
Consider him or her objective-
ly. Learn why the candidate
is running for office. What
really motivates him to serve..
a chip on the shoulder, a per-
sonal aK to grind, a genuine
desire to serve, an intelligent
concern for his home, his
state and his country? Will
the candidate be a f'fence sit-
ter" or will he have the cou-
rage to stand up and be count-
ed when doing so may threat-
en his own popularity? Will
the candidate, once elected,
remember that his job is to
act tor all the citizenry
impartially? Is the candidate
honest, reliable? Turn a
searchlight upon his actions,
for actions have always spqk-
en louder than anyman's
words,
Up till Thursday afternoon
October 31 at four o'clock
you may go to the Jefferson
County Board of Elections of-
fice in Steubenville and vote
an Absentee Ballot if you
are to be absent from your
home on Election Day, No-
vember 5th.
The Citizens living North-
west of Wintersville in the
area newly annexed to the
Village of Wintersville have
been duly certified as voters
with the secretary of the

Yes, Halloween is here
again; Election, too. Keep a
wary eye out for the goblins,
for "the goblins will get you
if you don't watch out"!
