The Proposed
School Consolidation
Consolidation seems to mean all
things to all people. However,
there are some things it does not
mean. It does not mean putting
all of the 5,000 pupils of one dis-
trict into ONE building. It does
not mean tearing down all the
existing buildings and trans-
porting all pupils to some un-
known, remote spot and putting
them under one roof.
This new district would have
about the same enrollment as the
Steubenville City Schools. Are
ALL of their pupils taken to one
location and placed in one build-
ing?
The existing buildings in the
three districts would have to be
used. Elementary pupils would
continue to use the same build-
ings for years to come unless
some unforseen catastrophe
should arise.
Many of the existing buildings
are nearly new. No one in his
right mind would advocate their
destruction merely to build
others. School houses are built
for school purposes and do not

***Slam
Slam
The Wintersville Citizen Bowling Team of tMe Town and Country League at Sunset Bowl,
crushed all opposition in the Steubenville Womans Bowling Association Annual Tournament. The
Association is composed of teams from Steubenville, Wintersville, Follansbee and Wellsburg.
The team, sponsored by The Wintersville Citizen, won out over 135 other teams and did this
in convincing style, as they bowled an actual of 2608 and a handicap score of 3055 to score a
Grand Slam of both actual and handicap. This is a rare feat.
Members of the Championship team are: (left to right) Jo Ann-Sample (514), Pat Maus (532),
Virginia Quattrone (586), Clara Blue (455) and Nancy O'Neil (521).
Virginia Quattrone led the Citizen team with a fine 586 series on games of 191-231-164.
This is Virginia's third year in a row as a member of the Championship team.
The team menmbers will receive individual trophies at the Steubenville Womans Bowling Asso-
ciation Annual Bantuet.
The Wintersville Citizen is quite proud of the girls and wishes to congratulate them on their
Championship.

Governor Proclaims
Traffic Safety Sunday
"Reckless driving is morally
wrong. Helping to prevent acci-
dents is morally right- and a
blessing."
With these words Governor
James A. Rhodes proclaimed
Sunday, February 20 as Traffic
Safety Sunday.
Prayer for all motorists:
Lord .... Give me a steady hand
and watchful eye,
That no one be hurt as I drive
by;
Thou gavest life, and now I pray,
That no careless act of mine
Shall take that gift away.
