Opinion On
Pfoposed School
Consolidation
Will the proposed consolidation
reduce the number of scholar-
ships available to our grkdutes?
No.
As far as athletic scholarships
are concerned, this consolidation
would improve our opportunities.
The bigger the school the more
widely it is known. More people
are aware of us. Boys with out-
standing abilities have a wider
chance to receive publicity if they
play on a good team and are
playing a schedule with teams
from larger schools.
As to other types of scholar-
ships, a bigger and richer school
means more courses. The con-
solidation will increase our in-
come per student so that a greater
variety of subjects canbe offered.
Pupils graduating from such a
high school are in a better posi-
tion to compete with other stu-
dents from good- high schools.
A star is a star no matter where
he or she is. Consolidation will
give our stars a chance to shine
in a wider field.
Consolidation will neither in-
crease nor decrease the number
of scholarships available. It will
improve Wintersville High School
so that its graduates will have
better chances and wider choices.
SRemember consolidation will
increase our income per student
by over $200, and it will lower
school taxes from two to three
dollars for each $1,000 worth of
property you own. It will make
it possible for us to have many
things we can't have with our
present income.
