Christine Eroshevich To
Research At Brown
Christine Erosevich
Christine E. Eroshevich, dau-
ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Eroshevich of 181 Beechwood
Blvd., Wintersville, Ohio has
been Invited to Brown University,
Providence, Rhode Island, to ac-
cept a ten week research assis-
tanceship this summer. She will
work with Dr. S.S. Zimmering
In Radiation Genetics and Mei-
otic Mchanics.
.She Is presently a freshman
at the College Of St. Mary of
the Springs, Columbus, Ohio,
where she is majoring in Biolo-
gy and Chemistry on an acade-
mic scholarship.
Christine graduated from
Catholic Central High School,
Steubenville, Ohio.
In the past, she received a
National Science Foundation
Grant to Syracuse University,
where she studied Botany at this
University. She also received a
National Science Foundation
Grant to the College of the Holy
Name, Oakland, California,
where she studied microbiology.
Next year Christine will be a
reserch assistant in the Can-
cer Research Program at St.
Mary's, where she is on the
Honors Program.
She was one of the 18 gradu-
ates that participated in the
Dollar For Scholarship Award.
Woodvue Park
To Open Saturday
The swimming pool at Woodvue
Amusement Park will open for the
1966 swimming season Saturday,
May 21.
Along with the swimming will
be pony rides and dancing on the
band stand.
The LTS's, the Jaguers, the
Classic's and the Raven's will be
playing during the afternoon and
evening.
The food concession stand with
soft drinks, ice cream, sand-
wiches will be open.
The picnic tables and shelter
houses are ready for the new
season.
The grand opening of the 40-
acre amusement park will be
held Saturday, May 28.
The first dance of the new sea-
son will be held Sunday, May 22
from 8 to 10 p.m. The LTD's
of Wintersville will be the fea-
tured musicians.
General Manager Patrick
O'Hara has announced that any-
one wanting reservations for pic-
nics, reunions, or Industrial pic-
nics should phone 264-3548
or stop at the park administra-
tion office.
Cynthia Watson
To Spend
"Junior Year Abroad"
Cynthia Watson, a Grove City
College sophomore from Win-
tersville, Ohio, has been selec-
ted as one of only three college
students from throughout the
country to spend a "Junior Year
Abroad" under auspices of the
United Presbyterian Church,
U.S.A.
Under sponsorship of the Ecu-
menical Missions and Relations
Board of the Presbyterian
Church, JYA program will en-
able Miss Watson to study at
the Free University of Berlin
and she will live at a privately-
operated dormitory during her
year in Berlin. She will return
to Grove City College to com-
plete her senior year.
Miss Watson will study German
Literature and will also under-
take courses in Philosophy and
English.
Miss Watson is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Reynold P. Wat-
son, 321 Garden Drive, Winters-
ville, and is a 1964 graduate of
Wintersville High School. At
Grove City, she has been on the
Dean's every semester since she
has been in Grove City. She is
a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma
Sorority; CWENS, the national
sophomore women's honorary
society; the Student Court; Orien-
tation Board; and she was just
elected as a junior representa-
tive on the Judicial Board.
William Weir To Speak
At Republican Meeting
William Weir, Republican Con-
gressional Candidate for Ohio's
18th Congressional District, will
be the featured speaker at the
meeting of the reorganized Win-
tersville Area Republican Club
Tuesday, May 24 at 8:00 p.m. in
the Wintersville Grange Hall.
Walter L. Myers, County Re-
publican Chairman, will intro-
duce the state and local candi-
dates at the meeting, and all in-
terested citizens of the Winters-
ville area are urged to attend this
meeting.
Mr. Weir of Salem, Ohio, has
actively begun his campaign for
the congressional seat in all
counties of the 18th district.
Paul R. Happ is president of
the Wintersville Area Republi-
can Club; Sanford S. Lawrence,
vice president; Mrs. Charles-F.
McConnell, secretary; Mrs.
Edith Forester, treasurer. Meet-
ings of the club are planned for
the fourth Tuesday of each month
in the Grange Hall, and area
residents are welcomed to join
at the May 24th meeting.
Police Chief Issues
Second Warning
A second warning has been
issued from Wintersville Police
Chief Victor Calabrese to all
residents of Wintersville that it
is unlawful to permit an un-
licensed or disabled motor ve-
property unless it is properly
housed in an enclosed building or
garage. A motor vehicle per-
mitted to stand in violation of
this ordinance after 30 days no-
tice may be removed and the
owner fined up to $100 per day
for every day of the violation
and every day shall be consider-
ed a separate violation. Owners
of all such vehicles are there-
fore urged to comply immediate-
ly with the provisions of this
ordinance.

Registration will continue until
all classes are filled.
Red Cross Instructors and ma-
terials will be used and all classi-
fications (from beginner to senior
life-saving) will be taught with
Red Cross Cards issued for com-
pletion of classes.
The only requirement for reg-
istration is that the person or
persons must be out of the first
grade; due to the pool speci-
fications.
Ohio State Patrol
Steps Up Recruitment
All persons interested in posi-
tion of Patrolman are urged to
contact the State Patrol Post at
Wintersville.
Minimum requirements are:
5'9"; Weight 160 or over; High
School Graduate; Age 21 to 30.
A Patrol recruiting officer will
be at the post Saturday and Sun-
day, May 21 and 22 between 10:00
a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Activities

John Ford, Council President,
presided at the regular meet-
ing of the Council. All members
were present.
It was reported that the widen-
ing of the entrance to Wood-
ridge Drive will proceed immedi-
ately.
Chief of Police Victor Calabrese
reprted that he Is workig on
plans to regulate truck traffic
through Springdale Ave. to which
residents are objecting. He also
reported the results of the traf-
fic check made by the Traffic
Department of the State High-
way department. The State
recommendation is that parking
on the south side of Main St.
be eliminated from the Junction
of Main St. and Rt. 43 to Wel-
day Ave. This would make pos-
sible a lane of traffic for those
making left turns of Fernwood
Road and improve the flow of
traffic at the Junction of routes
22 and 43.
A motion was made and carried
that enforcement of the sewage
ordinance be set in motion for
those whose time is passed that
they should be connected to the
sanitary sewer. Ohio health laws
require that all sewers from
homes be connected to the sani-
tary sewer.
Tlhe Board of Public Affairs
are planning to have the water
tower cleaned, painted and neces-
sary repairs made. They have
also asked for approval of legis-
lation to pay off ten water bonds
which will be due on December
1, 1966, stating that the money
is on .hand for this purpose.
Council members plan to hold
the semi-annual inspection of
village equipment and working
areas on Saturday, May 21st.
The next regular Council meet-
ing will be held on Tuesday,
June 7, 1966 at 7:30 p.m.

Swimming Lessons
Mr. Ray Rathbun, Cross Creek
Recreation Area Director, ad-
vises all persons who wish to
register for Free Swimming Les-
sons at Woodvue Park from June
27 to July 29th week-days from
8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to send
cards to Mr. Rathbun at 129
gave the welcome.
The program was arranged by
Mrs. Louis Dorrance. Mrs.
Charles Daily gave the invoca-
tion. The Toast to Mothers was
given by Mrs. William Shanley.
Mrs. Robert Palmer gave the
Toast to Daughters and Sons.
Two readings were given by Mrs.
William Perry.
Floyd Hendricks entertained
with a piano solo and a bassoon.
solo. He was accompanied by
Mr. John Hughes.
Mrs. Verne McElroy was named
Mother of the year and given
special recognition by Mrs. Hook.
She was presented with a gift
from the Society, by Mrs. William
Perry.
Mrs. Maurice Angle, daughter of
Mrs. McElroy also presented her
mother with a gift. Mrs. Angle
and her two sons from Columbus,
Ohio, were special guests.
Mrs. Hook also recognized Mrs.
Frank Purviance, who was
Mother of the year in 1965.
The Public Speaking Class of
Wintersville Senior High School
and Thespians of Troupe 1336
presented a choralogue, entitled,
"Along the Path". Della Hughes
was Student Director and Arlene
Hukill was pianist. The other
members were: Margaret Barr,
Diane Schaefer, Donna Moores,
Barbara McClave, Marjean Whit-
mer, Susan Weiss, Stephanie Mil-
kovlch, Debbie McElroy, Jane
Mitchell, Ann Eft, Susan Kirk,
Rita Blackwell, Barbara Mallett,
John Diekmann, Carolyn Hennis,
Shawn Overholt and Blair Drazic.
The Banquet was served by the
Methodist men. A corsage Was
presented to each one. They were
made by the Wesleyan Service
Guild.
The June 14th moeting will be a
George Ware of Talbott Drve
had problems Tuesday Morning
when his pony broke out of its
coral and started on an adven-
turous journey through Winters-
ville. The Wintersville Police
and Citizens tried to capture
the pony at various points, but
failed. The pony, scared from
being chased, was caught at 22
and 43 by two high school lads.
Doug Gosney, driving a pick-
up truck with Jack Downing in
the passenger seat, pulled up
along side of the pony and Jack
jumped out of the truck grab-
ing the escapee around the neck
and held it till Mr. Ware arrived
to escort the pony home.
