Weir Speaks To Wintersville Area Republican Club Harrison Grange To
3. . I n Al
William H. Weir of Salem, Ohio,
Republican Candidate for Con-
gressman from the Ohio 18th
Congressional District addres-
sed the members of the Winters-
ville Area Republican Club at a
meeting held in the Wintersville
Grange Hall on Tuesday, May 24,
1966. Mr. Weir was formerly
safety supervisor of the State
Highway Department Division
Headquarters in New Philadel-
phia, Ohio but gave up the post
to run for Congressman. Mr.
Weir stated, "All indications
point to a Republican landslide
of tremendous proportion this
fall. Whenever the victory goes
to the head of any political ticket
by a large enough majority, it is
inevitable that the victory
spreads and sweeps into office
most of the candidates of that
particular party. If ever was a
time to return the 18th District
to Republican ranks and rid our-
selves of the Hayes-Gosney ma-
chine, now is that time."
Sanford S. Lawrence, Vice Pre-
sident of the Wintersville Area
Republican Club, introduced Mrs.
Henrv A. Barren. Jr.. Jefferson
County Republican Chairwoman
and Walter L. Myers, Jr., Jef-
ferson County Republican Chair-
man,.
Mr. Myers introduced John
Longsworth of Salem, Repuli-
can Candidate for State Senator
and Joseph Bell, Brilliant, Ohio,
Republican Candidate for State
Representative.

plans to increase membership
and promote the growth of the
Wintersville Area Republican
Club. Meetings will be held the
fourth Tuesday of each month.

Success is a relative thing, someone said. But each of
us strives for it and plans his life and actions to achieve
it. We wish you success in this most complicated society, but
we would remind you not to achieve it at the sacrifice of
self respect. Many people write that our young people are
weak and unable to carry on the American tradition. This we
do not believe. We have the utmost confidence in you all.
