Ohio Bell To Have New
Commercial Manager
Charles Veverka
Charles J. Veverka, commer-
cial supervisor with Ohio Bell
in Columbus, will assume the
duties of district commercial
manager in Steubenville on July
1.
The appointment of Veverka, a
veteran of 14 years with the
utility, was announced by Harold
E. Dels, division commercial
mager, Columbus.
Veverka succeeds Douglas A.
Lynd, who died April 15 after
more than 12 years as district
commercial manager here. The
Steubenville district includes
Woodsfleld, Uhrichsvllle and
Martins Ferry.
Veverka was born in Cleveland
and was graduated from Ohio
Wesleyan University. He joined
Ohio Bell in 1952 as a sales
representative in the commer-
cial department in Dayton.
He served as commercial man-
ager at Toledo and Sandusky
before moving on to Columbus
in 1963.
Veverka is married and the
father of a daughter, Carol, who
plans to enroll in Dennison Uni-
versity this fall. The family plans
to move to Steubenville in the
near future.
Bill Worthington To Leave
ill Worthington is ready to
leave on Saturday from the Pitts-
burgh Airport for Norway. He
is to represent Ohio's Hi-Y Clubs
with 13 other boys and will take
part in the World's Conference
of HI-Y Clubs.
Bill will be one of 800 to 1,000
youths representing all Coun-
tries of the World.
The United States delegations
will be limited to 224 boys be-
tween the ages of 15 through
19, accompanied by 26 adult lead-
ers. Following the Conference,
the United States delegates will
be divided into groups and will
tour Northern and Central
Europe. Plans. for the United
States delegates include a 5-day
visit in a private home during
the European tour before their
return trip home on July 30, 1966.

Acti vities

Mayor Thomas Albaugh pre-
sided at the regular Council ses-
sion. All CouncIlmembers were
present.
The mayor read the resignation
of Street Commissioner Cecil
Sanders. He resigned for per-
sonal reasons. The resignation
was accepted with regret and
thanks for his services. A tem-
porary appointment was made,
transferring Willard Hutton from
the Sewer Department to the
Street Department until a per-
manent appointment can be made.
Paul Pashke and Wesley Harris
were appointed to represent Win-
tersville on the County Planning
Commission.
A report from the street com-
mittee informed Council that
work has begun on Fernwood Road
and -it will be ready for resur-
facing this week. It was also
decided that a number of the
streets in the village will be oiled
this week.
A representative of the Motorola
Company was present to display
two way radios for use in village
vehicles. Plans for additional
radio equipment will be consider-
ed in the future.
The next regular Council meet-
Ing will be on Tuesday, July 5
at 7:30 p.m.
The Wintersville Area Republi-
can Club will meet Tuesday, June
28, 1966 at 8:00 P.M. in the Win-
tersville Grange Hall.

and urges all members toattend.
Prospective members are in-
vited to attend this meeting.
East Springfield Festival
A Festival and Fair sponsored
by the East Springfield Com-
munity Center and Firemen will
be held on Saturday, June 25
from 12:00 noon until ??????
All area residents are invited
to attend the Fair for some
fine food, lots of fun and frolic.
For Norway On Saturday
#1636, Starkdale Women's Asso.,
Steubenville Hi-Y District, and
the Wintersville Boosters.
The fund is not as yet complete
and anyone interested can send
donations to the Steubenville
Y.M.C.A., making sure to desig-
nate it as Bill Worthington Fund.
Drag Racing Prohibited
Drag racing on public highways
in the State of Ohio is prohibited.
Drag racing is defined as the
operation of two or more vehicles
from a point side by side at ac-
celerating speeds in a competi-
tive attempt to out-distance each
other. Drag racing is also defined
as the operation of one or more
vehicles over a common selected
course, from the same point to
the same point, wherein timing
Is made of the participating ve-
hicles involving competitive ac-
celerations or speeds.
Persons rendering assistance in
any manner are considered parti-
cipants at drag races and subject
to the same penalties as the actual
drivers of the cars.
The law specifically provides
that participants of drag races on
the public highways of Ohio shall
be fined not more than $500.00 or
imprisoned not more than six
months, or both.
