General Promotes Local
Private In Field
Lieutenant General G.R. Mather, Commanding General of V
Corps, pins stripes on Private First Class Robert V. Bryson of
V Corps Headquarters during a recent field promotion. Assisting
in the surprise promotion is Sergeant Major C.S. Powell of V
Corps G-1 section. Private Bryson, a stenographer in G-l, comes
from Bloomingdale, Ohio.
It's not every day that athree-
star general promotes a soldier
to private first class and actually
pins the stripes onhis shoulders.
Thus, Pfc Robert V. Bryson of
Bloomingdale, Ohio was in for
a big surprise during field exer-
cises recently with V Corps
Headquarters.
The 19-year-old soldier, a
stenographer in V Corps G-1
section, was working in the visi-
tor's bureau during Fallex-66
.and had stepped out of the tent'
for a moment.
Shortly afterwards, Assistant
Chief of Staff for G-l, Colonel
Jack F. Belford, called for the
trooper, but he was met out-
side the tent by Lieutenant Gen-
eral G.R. Mather, Commanding
General of V Corps, who pro-
moted the astonished man on the
spot.
Private Bryson did not know
he was up for promotion at the
time.
The son of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph V. Bryson, Box 201,
RD #2, Bloomingdale, Ohio, Pfc
Bryson entered the Army in
March of this year and completed
Basic Combat Training at Fort
Benning, Ga.
He attended the Army's Ad-
jutant General School at Fort
Benjamin Harrison, Ind., before
going to Germany in October.
A 1965 graduate of Springfield
Local High School in Amsterdam,
Ohio, Private Bryson attended
Steubenville Business College,
Steubenville, Ohio before joining
the Army.
After completing his remain-

ing two and one-half years In
the service, he hopes to con-
tinue his studies in business
administration.
Private Bryson currently has a
21-year-old brother serving as
an infantryman with Marine
Corps at Da Nang in South Viet
Nam.
He also has one sister and
four other brothers, the oldest
of whom completed his service
while serving in Augsburg, Ger-
many for three years.

Tea Scheduled
19 Homemaker's Extension
Groups of Jefferson County will
present their "Christmas Bud-
get-Wise" Tea at Starkdale
Church, Thursday, November 17
from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m.
A highlight of the tea will be
the demonstrations of "Easier
Yuletide Shopping With A Tote
Bag" and "Package Decora-
tions."
The special exhibits planned
will include:
Books for Christmas from the
County Library.
A Bird's Christmas from the
Audubon Club.
Time Savers for Christmas
from the Ohio Power Company.
Other exhibits will be a General
Ideas Table, Door Decorations,
Holiday Cookies from Other
Lands, Shortcuts for the Christ-
mas Dinner, Holiday Breads from
Other Lands, Take time for a
Tree, Fireplace Decorations,
Holiday Reflections, Homemade
Toys, Gifts for Shut-ins, Plastic
Container Magic, and the True
Meaning of Christmas.
Literature and instructions for
the items on display and recipes
for the food exhibits will be avail-
able.
ANNAPOLIS GRANGE TO
HOLD CHICKEN DINNER
There will be a baked chicken
supper on Saturday, November 19
beginning at 5 p.m. in the Anna-
polis Grange Hall. Donation $1.50
for adults and 75' for children
under 12. Public cordially in-
vited.

Police Respond
To Many Calls
The Wintersville Police De-
partment has been kept on
the move during the week of
November 9 to November 17,
investigating a total of 23 com-
plaints lodged by the citizens of
Wintersville.
Police were called to the inter-
section of Routes 22 & 43 at
5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Novem-
-ber 9 where cars driven by John
W. Bally, Sr, Age 73, 480 Wood-
land Place, Greenwood, Indiana,
and Larry E. Little, age 18,
RD #3, Steubenville had collided-
at the ..entrance to Woodridge
Drive. Both drivers were headed
east and were attempting to con-
form to the traffic lanes at that
point. Minor damage was done
to both vehicles.
On Friday, November 11, a
car operated by Eva Little of
108 Braebarton Blvd., Steuben-
ville and traveling west on Main
Street was struck by a driver-
less vehicle owned by Lloyd Mill-
horn, RD #1, Bloomingdale, 0.,
which had drifted from its park-
ing place, crossing the center
line and striking the Little auto-
mobile damaging the left rear

WEINER ROAST SATURDAY
The Wintersville High School
T-Teens will hold a picnic-
weiner roast on Saturday,
November 19 from 7 to 9:30p.m.
at the Memorial Park Shelter
House.
Plenty of food and fine enter-
tainment will be available.
All Y-Teens can bring one
guest.
Wintersville Council Approves
Several Ordinances
Wintersville Village Council
met in regular session on Tues-
day, November 15, at 7:30 p.m.
Council members present includ-
ed Council President John Ford,
Councilmen Roy Steele, Francis
Gribbin, Robert Snyder and Ar-
thur Bartell. Also present were
Solicitor Dick Powell, Treasurer
Floyd Call, Clerk DelbertVance,
with Mayor Thomas L. Albaugh,
presiding.
The minutes of the November
1st meeting were read and
approved, and the Solicitor intro-
duced the following ordinances
and resolutions:
Ordinance #671 - second read-
ing only. An ordinance regula-
ting the construction, alteration,
removal, demolition and main-
tenance of buildings within the
Village of Wintersville.
Ordinance #672-A resolution
accepting the amounts and rates
as determined by the Budget
Commission and authorizing the
necessary tax levies pertaining
to Wintersville.
Ordinance #673- An ordinance
amending a previous ordinance
and establishing a new wage
scale of $400 per month for
basic laborers in the village
employ. This ordinance was de-
clared to be an emergency or-
dinance and on the vote of coun-
cil, the second and third read-

at a dance sponsored by the
Wintersville Hi-Y on Friday,
November 18 from 8 to 11 p.m.
at the High School.

be known as Wintersville Pri-

the storage of materials. This
ordinance was declared to be
an emergency ordinance and upon
the second and third reading was
approved by unanimous vote.
Ordinance #675-An ordinance
amending a previous ordinance.
and amending the wages of the
employees of the Board of Pub-
lic Affairs and Employees of the
Village effecting a raise of $25
per month, effective December
1, 1966. This ordinance was de-
clared to be an emergency or-
dinance and upon the second and
third reading was approved.
Ordinance #676, 1st reading-
An ordinance amending a pre-
vious ordinance and setting the
rates to be paid to the Mayor,
Village Clerk and members of
Council. The second reading will
be heard at the next Council
meeting.

decorated a Christmas Tree early to show another way to use Christmas Seals.The girls Mother,
Mary, works for the Jefferson County Tuberculosis and Health Association and the gils-were
eager to help in the fight against the dread disease. The goal this year is $25,000.00. Tubercu-
lin Skin Tests, X-rays, Research, Health Education, and Air Pollution Control are some of the
programs carried on by your contributions for Christmas Seals.
