Life Underwriters To Hold
"Man Of The Year" BanQuet
Veterans Hold "Four Chaplains"Service
The Steubenville Association of Life Underwriters will hold its
February meeting at the Steubenville Country Club the evening of
February 8th at 7 p.m.
This will be the first annual "Man of the Year" Banquet for men
and wives. A man of the year will be named from several companies
in the area.
There will also be a dance after the ceremony with Joe DiAnniballe
and his orchestra.
The mayor of Steubenville, Andrew Miller, has named the week of
February 5th as Life Underwriters Week, to honor all underwriters
in the area. Mayor and Mrs. Andrew Miller will attend the affair.
Mayor Miller is shown above (seated) with officers of the Life
Underwriters Association. They are (standing, 1 tor) Harry Marshall-
1st Vice President; Don Seigfreid - 2nd Vice President; and Pete
Russin - President.

nerce held its 13th annual
a lection of officers, January 24,
1968 in the Village Building.
Mayor Anthony Petrozzi was a
guest.

The 13th Annual Banquet will
be held February 21, 1968 at the
Wintersville Firehouse Hall.
Tickets may be obtained by call-
ing 264-2196 after 5:00 p.m. or
from any member of the Chamber
of Commerce. Reservations must
be in by February 16, 1968. Mr.
Ralph Freshwater is dinner
chairman. Jack Beveridge and
Bart Marano will serve on the
committee with Mr. Freshwater.
Plans of the Proposed Shopping
Center, to be built in Winters-
ville, were on display.
Ralph Freshwater will serve
on the Citizens Committee and
Roy Hooker on the Traffic Com-
mittee.
The Chamber of Commerce
went on record stating they would
support the Shopping Center one
hundred percent.

Mill Men's Hostel
Announces Annual
Open House
On February 4th, the Mill
Men's Hostel at 418 South 3rd
St. in Steubenville will be cele-
brating their eighth annual Open
House to which the general public
is invited. The hours will be
from 2 to 10 P.M. Light refresh-
ments will be served.
The Open House is planned, so
that people will become familiar
with what the Hostel is attempt-
ing to do for the working - man.
In a broad sense, this is a mis-
sionary enterprise and we be-
lieve that Church people should
be vitally interested.
A special invitation to visit
the Hostel is being extended to
the men who use the facilities to
bring their families and to the
Church people of the community.

Indian Creek PTA
Council To Meet
The Indian Creek Council of
Parents and Teacher's Associa-
tion will meet Wednesday, Feb-
ruary 7 at eight P.M. in the
Wintersville Elementary School.
Dr. Nick Terezis will present
a program on Cancer and Smok-
ing. This program is sponsored
by the Steubenville Cancer Cen-
ter. The meeting is open ot all
interested persons.
Mrs. John Grimes will preside
for the business session. Re-
freshments will be served. A
board meeting of officers will
be held at 7 p.m.

The United Veterans Council
presented its -4th Annual "The
Four Chaplains" Services last
Sunday at the War Memorial
Building on North Street, Steu-
benville. Ceremonies began at
2:30 pm. Joseph D. Linorell was
the Chairman and Toastmaster
for the services.
The American Legion Band
Post No. 33 accompanied William
H. C. Burt as he sang the "Star
Spangled Banner" and "My
Buddy". The Band also played
several selections during the
program.
Four local ministers partici-
pated in the program, Rev. Will-
iam McNeil, Rev. Donald Man-
t ica, Rev. Castle V. Stewart and
Rabbi Dov Edelstein. Rev. Mc-
Neil, a retired Major of the
United States Air Force, gave
the Invocation, Rev. Manticagave
the Blessing, Rev. Stewart gave
a brief talk and Rabbi Dov Edel-
stein, the Benediction.
Rev. Joseph A. Nealon gave the
principal address for the
services, held each year to honor
Four chaplains who gave their
lives that other American
soldiers might live when the
troopship Dorchester was sunk
on the night of February 3rd,
1943. The loaded troop transport
was torpedoed without warning
by an enemy submarine in the
North Atlantic. The four chap-
lains encouraged the men and
assisted them in abandoning the
ship, and after the available
supply of life jackets was ex-
hausted. they gave up-their own.
The four remained aboard ship
and went down with it.
Steubenville Mayor Andrew
Miller extended the Welcome to
those present.
Walter F. Jackson played Taps
and concluded the services with
the Benediction.
Refreshments were served
through the courtesy of the
American Legion Post No. 33
and Fraternal Order of Eagles,
Aerie No. 421 with the Ladies of
the participating Auxiliaries as
hostesses..

Rev. Joseph A. Nealon, and Commander Thomas C, Jones, American
Jan Jones To Compete
In Junior Miss Pageant
Miss Jan Jones, Jefierson County's Junior Miss, departed from
the Wintersville Airport, on Monday, January 29 to compete in the
Ohio Junior Miss Pageant in Xenia, Ohio.
Miss Jones is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Robert Jones of Toronto,
Ohio and is a Senior at Toronto High School. After graduation, Jan
plans to enter the University of Tennessee, where she will major in
Education and study speech and dramatics. She is active in the
Steubenville Players and was first runner-up in the Miss Teenage
Ohio Contest.
The girl crowned Ohio's Junior Miss will receive a one thousand
dollar scholarship and the right to compete for America's Junior
Miss Crown and a ten thousand dollar first prize scholarship in
Mobile, Alabama. All contestants will be judged on character,
scholarship, ambition, leadership, religious interests, and lady-like
poise and demeanor.
As a winner of the local pageant, Miss Jones received a $200
scholarship, trophy and a white formal gown. She also won the special
talent award for he] rendition of a jazz dance.
The local pageant was sponsored by the Steubenville Jaycees with
Joe Lancia and Frank Sentich as co-chairmen. Laman Studio Photo
