Pier Receives V'Citizen's Award" At C of C BanqL
Village Honored With
Presentation Of Capitol's Flag

Patton, of Post 557 American Legion of Wlntersville, presents an American Flag to the Village. The Flag
was flown over the Nation's Capitl, throughthe effort of Congressman Wayne L.. Hays, Mayor Petrozzi,
on behalf of the Village of Wintersville, accepts the Stars and Stripes with great honor.
Dr. D. A. Macedonia,
Prominent Civic Leader, Dies
Dr. D. A. Macedonia, 59, of 200
Fellows Drive, medical, civic,
religious and political leader of
the area, was stricken with an
apparent heart attack at his home
at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening.
He died at 9:25 p.m. in St. John
Hospital.
Dr. Macedonia, Jefferson
County Democratic chairman
since May of 1966 and a member
of the Board of Elections, sworn
in by Secr.tary of State, Ted
W. Brown just a week ago, fol-
lowed his major interest in the
field of medicine. He was a
member of the medical staffs
at St. John, Gill Memorial and
Ohio Valley hospitals of Steuben-
ville -and the Weirton General
Hospital. He also served as Chief
of Staff at St. John Hospital.
Dr. Macedonia, known state-
wide and nationally as a member
of the Ohio State Medical Board,
received National recognition for
his work with the Ohio Lions
Eye Research Foundation as
chairman of the Medical Ad-
visory Board of the foundation
and later as its director and
president.
The religious aspect of Dr.
Macedonia's interests also
covered a wid.? area. In 1952
Pope Pius XII namqd him a
Knight Commander with a Star
in the Order of St. Gregory
the Great and in 1955 was award-
ed the coveted Caritas Medal by
the Most Rev. John King Mussio,
DD, bishop of Steubenville. The
awards were presented for dis-
tinguished service to the church.
Other awards included the Cross
of Solidarity in September by the
Republic of Italy.
Single awards to Dr. Mace-
donia number in the hundreds
in all fields of cominmuwilty life.
He was a member and past
president of the Board of Ad-
visors of the College of Steu-

benville and a member of the
College's Founders Association.
An avid sports fan, he was a
member and past president of
the Catholic Central Athletic
Board since 1948 and was past
conmmissioner of the Babe Ruth
League and president of the Fort
Steuben Soccer Association. He
was on the executive board of
the Diocesan Community Arena
and the Catholic Community Cen-
ter. He also held memberships
in local organizations including
the Steubenville and William-
Country Clubs.
Dr. Macedoalia was a native
of Steubenville, born on October
8, 1908, the son of Giovanni
and Annunziata Mombella Mace-
donia.
He received his elementary

The Wintersville Village
Council met in regular session,
Tuesday, February 20, 1968, at
7:30, at the City Building on
Leonard Avenue. Mayor Anthony
Petrozzi presided.
Mr. George Hall, Commander
of the American Legion Post
#557, Wintersville, Ohio, along
with Legion members John Hritz,
Robert Patton, Charles Wilson,
and Albert Blackburn, presented
an American Flag to Mayor
Petrozzi. The Flag will be dis-
played at the City Building on
Leonard Avenue. Commander
Hall stated this Flag had flown
over the Capitol Building in
Washington, D. C. It was an honor
and a privilege to receive this
Flag.
Rene Pier
Mr. Rene Pier, vacationing in Florida, was honored at the
Wintersville Chamber of Commerce banquet as the recipient of the
Annual "Citizen's Award". Mr. Pier was chosen for the Award for
his outstanding service to Wintersville. Mr. Pier's contributions
to the Village and surrounding areas include the football field and
fence, he donated profits from the school ground, donated the score-
board for the Football field, co-signed for the bleachers, donated
to the area hospitals and churches, sponsored Little League and
Babe Ruth Teams and was instrumental in the construction of the
Airport and 3 Little League fields.

Mayor Petrozzi presented Law
Enforcement Officers Training
School Certificates in cooper-
ation with the Federal Bureau of
Investigation to members of the
Wintersville Police Department
and the Auxiliary Police, for
attending the schooling from
September 21 to November 2,
1967, at the Wintersville City
Building.
A letter was read by the Mayor,
from the District Board of Health
of Jefferson County, regarding
new State laws on the disposal
of garbage and other refuse. Mr.
