Wintersville To Observe
Steelmark Month
May is Steelmark Month and the Village of Wintersville will help
observe it with a parade scheduled for May 25th. The parade will
form at 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Thrift City and continue on
Main Street where it will disband at the Wintersville Elementary
School.
The parade will include the Steelmark Queen, Miss Bonnie Melby
of New Cumberland and her court, with Miss Valerie Taliani repre-
senting Wintersville. The Wintersville and Wayne High School Bands,
Boy Scouts, Little Leaguers and Girl Scouts. All youngsters who
would like to decorate their bicycles and march or ride along with
the parade are welcome to do so. All children participating in the
parade will be given popsicles at the termination of the parade. This
is the first attempt to be made by Wintersville to have its own Steel-
mark Month Parade. All who can are urged to participate and help
make it a success.

Wintersville Poppy Day Set
(Left to right) Anthony Petrozzi, Mayor of Wintersville, is shown
buying the first Poppy from Mrs. John Garner, chairman of Poppy
Day foi the American Legion Auxiliary, while Mrs. Charles Wilson,
President of the Auxiliary looks on. Poppy Day will be held Friday,
May 17th in Wintersville. Members of the Auxiliary have asked the
support of Wintersville residents in their project. Proceeds from
Poppy Day are used for Child Welfare, Rehabilitation and to aid
Veterans in the hospitals. The Poppies are made by Disabled
American Veterans.

Ford Elected To Central Committee

will re-unite and work together for a better Democratic Party.
Dr. Robert Price was named
chairman of the Jefferson County
Democratic Executive Committee
Tuesday night in the Stratton
Firehall by a unanimous vote of
the Executive Committee. Dr.
Robert Price has been serving as
chairman of the Jefferson County
Democrats since the death of
D.A. Macedonia last February.
Stratton Mayor, John Abdalla
was elected chairman of the Cen-
tral Committee, Hugo Alexander,
Vice Chairman and John Ford,
councilman of Wintersville, was
named to the Secretary-Trea-
surer Post.
Mayor Abdalla won the Central
Committee chairmanship by the
vote of 68-66, with 136 precinct
committeemen registered to
vote. The vote in the ballot box
was 68 for Abdalla, 66 for Alex-
ander, 1 vote abstaining and 1
vote by William Hardey being
challenged, which was placed in
a sealed envelope, only to be
opened and counted if the vote
would have been tied.

lasted only 10 seconds and they
returned in favor of Dr. Price.
Dr. Price, in a speech before
200 loyal Democrats, stated that
the Party, which has been split,
will work hard and will reunite
to really give the Republican
Party something to talk about.
Dr. Price said that he and Hugo
Alexander will work hard to-
gether and will plan many special
activities for all precinct com-
mitteemen.
